- ▼ Why wrist wraps are used?
- Calisthenic wraps are used to support the services of the wrists during weight training (with load or weight of our own body). The wrists are exposed to excessive stretching when performing pressure exercises or during weightlifting. Lack of stiffening may not only lead to incorrect or unsuccessful performance of exercises, but also to joint damages. The wrist strap stiffens the wrists, strengthening them during this type of training. Calisthenic wraps support the joints of the wrists, protect them from injury and improve the mechanics of exercises.
- ▼ What exercises are wrist wraps used for?
- Wrist bands can be used for all workouts that strain the joints of the wrist and require keeping it straight. These are primarily exercises based on push movements and weightlifting. The most popular exercises in which calisthenic wraps are used are:
- bench press,
- dumbbell rows,
- deadlifts,
- rack pulls/rack deadlifts.
- ▼ Do wrist wraps work well during weightlifting?
- Yes! Their aim is to stiffen the wrists and support them during exercises with weights. Lifting barbells and dumbbells, especially those of great weight, undoubtedly belongs to such exercises. The use of wrist wraps during weightlifting allows you to increase the load and protect your wrist joints from the painful injuries of the wrists and hands.
- ▼ What length should the calisthenic wraps have?
- The minimum wrist wraps’ length should not be shorter than about 61 centimeters (24’’). All our calisthenic wraps are 75 centimeters long, so you can tailor them to your needs depending on your gender and posture.
- ▼ Do wrist wraps prevent injuries?
- Injury prevention is one of the functions of wrist wraps. In addition to supporting the correct exercise technique and increasing the effectiveness of training, calisthenic wraps protect the joints of the wrists. They prevent overloading and overstretching. Thanks to calisthenic wraps, we reduce the risk of recurrence an old injury and we also prevent new injuries. Wrist wraps protect, among others, against tendinitis, wrist strain or carpal tunnel syndrome.
- ▼ Do wrist wraps help for wrist pain?
- No. Wrist wraps are used to prevent injuries and to support the wrists during exercises. They can also protect against renewing an old injury. Calisthenic wraps, however, are not a way to cure already hurting wrist. People who want to hide the pain and discomfort of wrist joints with using wraps make a mistake – exercising in such a condition can only lead to a worsening of the injury. Sometimes the pain is a result of attempt to perform an exercise that is beyond our capabilities. It such case it is worth remembering that wrist wraps only support our training, but they will not make us stronger.
- ▼ How to tie wrist wraps?
- Tying the wrist wraps is in fact very simple. It doesn’t take a lot of time. At first lay the one end of wrap (without black tape) over your wrist, right under your hand. Now loop remainder of the wrap around your wrist. Then, when the whole material is on our wrist, loop the black tape as many times as you need. Insert the end of the tape under the previous layers. Now you can adjust the tightness of the wrap by twisting it. Wrist wraps can be adjusted as you want, fitting comfort and the degree of stiffness of the wrist. Regardless of your preferences, it is important that the wrap tightly adheres to the wrist surface.
- ▼ Can wrist wraps be worn for every workout?
- They can, but they should not be. Specialists often recommend tying wrist wraps only on those training days when we plan exercises with the maximum loads for us (or near the maximum). In fact, too often – and frequently unnecessary – use of wraps can lead to a reduction in the development of wrist flexors and wrist extensors strength.
- ▼ Can wearing wrist wraps be uncomfortable?
- Professional wrist wraps should not be uncomfortable or cause discomfort during exercise. In Caliathletics we create 100% cotton wraps – they are comfortable and soft to use, skin-friendly. They do not cause abrasions. In addition, our wrist wraps are breathable and do not cause excessive sweating of the skin under the wrap. If wearing wrist wraps is inconvenient for you, then you have probably chosen the wrong ones or incorrectly set them up.
- ▼ Can calisthenic wraps be washed?
- You can, and even should. Wrist wraps simply wash thoroughly under running water and allow to dry. It is not recommended to use washing powders or other chemicals, and if so – remember to rinse the wraps very thoroughly. Otherwise they can irritate the skin afterwards. If you want, you can also wash them in the washing machine, just remembering about the right program for dyed cotton.
